Artist Statement

My work moves between abstraction and glimpses of realism, turning familiar scenes of domestic life into simple, whimsical compositions. Basic house shapes, flowers, kitchen tools, and everyday objects appear in layered patterns. Flat, non-dimensional people and recurring silhouettes offer my own daydreaming presence. Their simplified forms invite viewers to imagine the stories, routines, and relationships unfolding within them.

As an artist and art teacher, I’m drawn to the ways people learn to see, make, and find meaning in ordinary things, especially in the image of a home. Teaching has shaped my interest in clear shapes, visual play, and the power of childlike wonder in our adult lives.

I work across painting, illustration, and printmaking to build images from repeated motifs. I balance areas of abstraction with occasional realistic details, letting recognizable objects anchor more playful compositions. My process is guided by journaling, material experimentation, and a willingness to let simple shapes shift into unexpected arrangements.

I hope my work encourages viewers to look again at the familiar. To notice the beauty, humor, and quiet poetry of daily life is a gift we are leaving behind in this digital age. Through domestic imagery and imaginative forms, I invite each person to find a little of their own world within mine.
